Down by the Sea

Down by the sea, two lonely souls stand.
Thoughts of longing arise as they walk the sand.
The two, far out of reach and too distant from sight
Move toward each other, toward a distant circling light.
The two walk for hours, both in great pain.
After an entire day, both questioned if they were sane.
Their payoff emerged in the image of large rock wall.
At the end stood a magnificent lighthouse, strong and tall.
The girl upon getting there first
Leapt with joy, and felt her heart to burst.
The girl climbed the rocks even though sore
And ran to edge of the sea, to the lighthouse door.
She pulled the thick oak entrance and opened it wide.
She moved in to peer inside.
And to her astonishment, as she took a look.
Were thousands and thousands of the greatest books.
They filled the lighthouse from the base.
And lined the walls that followed the staircase.
She squealed and laughed, laughed and cried.
She'd thought she'd gone to heaven and totally died!
As she walked near the checkout desk, what did she pass?
But a golden cash register, all made from brass!
The lighthouse seemed abandoned, left just for her.
She couldn't wait for her first customer, "Can I help you sir?"
Just then a knock came at her door
A gentleman entered, exhausted, and fell on the floor.
She ran around her desk to lift him up
She grabbed some water and filled a cup.
She held him in her lap and was taken by surprise.
Cause this guy seemed very handsome and wise.
He looked up into her beautiful eyes
Only to find his heart filled with joyous sighs.
At that moment, he no longer felt like a loner.
"I'm looking for a book." he says, "It's
called, 'How to Marry a Bookstore Owner?'"
At that moment, he no longer felt like a loner.
