Confusing

I'm head over heels in love with this boy but I'm confused as to whether he really likes me or not. A friend set us up. We're in a casual relationship but he can never seem to talk to me face to face. I consulted with a friend and he said he was too shy to talk to me. Also, there's a language barrier holding both of us back. We've texted before but that's beside the point. What do you think?
